Introducing Walt Price, Age 40, Milwaukee WI:
Walt Price, a 40-year-old firefighter, knows first hand how difficult it is to quit smoking. While growing up, Walt was surrounded by smokers including his mother and older brother. Consequently, at age 14 he began smoking. Initially, it was a means to bond with his older brother but then he became hooked. He attempted to quit several times throughout his life but was only able to fight the urge three to six months at a time before he was back at it again. Walt’s decision to put an end to smoking forever was inspired by his fiancé and the hope of having kids someday. He was ready to live a long, healthy life for the sake of family. Walt never picked up another cigarette after that realization and was smoke free at the age of 25. Walt knows firsthand how difficult it is to quit smoking. It is a matter of determination, willpower, and strength. He wants to encourage smokers to stop and question why they are smoking, and to study their smoking tendencies and patterns. Walt wants people to realize that smoking is a social habit that can be broken, and there are tremendous health benefits to quitting. His overall advice to people who are struggling to quit smoking is to avoid places where they may be tempted to light one up again. Walt wants people who are trying to quit to know that they can DO IT by utilizing support from the American Lung Association’s Quitter in You © campaign.
